Since having kids it has been harder and harder for me to really be the kind of reader I used to be. I would devour books. Chew them up slowly and savour them and then read them again with huge bites! Now I read a little bit and put the book down. Read a little bit and put the book down. Rinse, repeat until the book is done. It doesn’t have the same joy.
One of my favorite authors that I will read anything he write is Rick Riordan. I know his books are more geared towards the younger generation but I still love them.
I started with The Lightning Thief which is book one of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. At that point books two and three were out so I got them as well. Then I had to wait a little over a month for book four which wasnt bad. It wasnt until I finished book four that I realized that it meant I had to wait half a year for the last book to come out!!! I was so upset. I managed it though and book five, The Last Olympian, is one of the best I have ever read. I cry every single time I reread it.
Lucky for me that Rick Riordan continued his series with the Heroes of Olympus which focus on both new and old characters based in the same world as Percy Jackson. He also has a great Egyptian god and goddesses series, The Kane Chronicles. I love it as well but not as much as Percy Jackson.

My daughter and all of her friends are loving the Percy Jackson books. I haven't read them yet but definitely going too soon. She usually has great taste in books.
I love those books too! I anxiously awaited my kids finishing them so I could get me hands on them. 🙂
I think my girls would really like this 🙂
I have the Percy Jackson books in my TBR list, but I still haven't taken the time to read them. I loved the movie, but I figure it won't be the same, so maybe that is what is holding me back. Great choice!
Not the same at all. I hated the movie. In the first book he is NOT 16. He isnt 16 till the last book and they just garbled it alot. Like they do when they make movies from books.
We are big Rick Riordan fans here. My oldest son is working through the series now.
Our family are total Rick Riordan fans – of course anything that has to do with mythology (any type of mythology) is a must read for me.
Me too! Have you read the Avatar series by Tui Sutherland?
