Searching for a Cheap Wireless Plan & Better Service

collective bias

If there is one thing that people will recognize right away about me it is that I love new technology.  I go in rages over sub par ‘upgrades’ that companies hand down and I rave enthusiastically about specs on new products. Generally I just like to be the first to try new things and I like to get them as cheap as possible. So when I was selected to try out a new phone AND find a new Cheap Wireless Plan I was over the moon.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my current phone. I just am beginning to not like my plan.  They sent me this awesome LG L9 phone to try out and I love it!

My husband and I have been on the same plan for a few years now. We have a family plan for our two phones and we have a pay as you go phone for our oldest son.  In the past it was simpler that way because he only ever used his phone on trips to grandma’s and while he was home alone in the few afternoons I had to past 3:30.  Now that he is older and is going on so many trips with the Boy Scouts and has turned into a texting machine, we need to find something cheaper.  I have to be able to keep in touch with him for a cheaper rate. Our service provider quit offering unlimited data this past year so when we renewed our family plan now costs about $160 per month for the two lines.  We pay $60 ($30 a phone) for our data plans for only 4 G to share.  We used to pay $25 for unlimited.  That’s not why I have been upset with our service though I am getting pretty tired of paying so much. The main reason I am mad at my service provider is the lack of service! My phone has two bars of signal at my HOUSE! I live 0.3 miles from a cell tower so I should have perfect signal. I should not be dropping calls or having to move to the back porch in this day and age of cell service.   I want to be able to call my mom (like I do every single day) and talk to her for 30 minutes about the ridiculous things the kids do.

After browsing around and looking at all the signs at the Walmart Mobile Center, my husband and I talked about how much we could be saving by using no-contract unlimited plans. We shopped around which you can see by my Google + album. We went with the Family Mobile Plan. It is only $40 a month and it has unlimited talk, text, and web.  That is super amazing considering how much we pay for our contract phones.  A real unlimited plan is totally amazing since I know lots of companies charge hidden fees to their contracts. That is where the Family Mobile Plan stands out yet again.  It is on Tmobile’s network and offers great service. I can tell you for sure that I know that #FamilyMobileSaves.

$40 for the first line; $35 for each additional line.

One-time $25 Starter Kit required per line.

NO contract! You are billed monthly and you can stop at any time.

You can keep up with your plan on the online account management site.

You can see my husband likes the new Lg L9 phone which retails for less than $200.  And you can also see that it is working in the Walmart.  In the Walmart that my old phone doesn’t work at all in.  Its like it kills signal and internet there because I have had many of time being in the groceries and looking for my husband and not even being able to call or text him to find out where he is in the store. He played with it throughout the whole store and had a ton of new apps downloaded on it before we got home including his very favorite Pandora.  I put great stock in being able to keep in touch with my family so I am glad to have a phone that has worked everywhere we have taken it.

This is a picture I took with my new LG L9 phone. The colors look great. It was almost dusk outside but it still looks very clear. I immediately sent it to my mom of course.  I love being able to text great photos to my family from my phone. I especially love how easy it is to stop worrying about how texts I am using because it is UNLIMITED!

I will be back in July to tell you how my new wireless journey is going with the Family Mobile Plan.

  1. I know just what you mean about service and signal! We have trouble with that through our current provider as well, in any area that they rate as tops in signal strength! Its so frustrating to pay so much for service that is challenging to even use! I'm encouraged by what you discovered about the Walmart Family Mobile plan – especially the great savings to be had! I'll be looking forward to reading more about your experience 🙂

  2. I would love to switch providers, however, we live in the mountains, the Family Mobile plan doesn't have great service where our house is located. 🙂
