Gotta Protect the Monies with Income Protection Insurance

I think if you ask anyone what makes the world go round they will say something sappy.  They are wrong. It is money.  Sometimes I wish that wasn’t true but I cant change that.  I grew up super poor and it only got worse. Like one whole winter all we had to eat was potatoes and we couldn’t afford heat so we had fires in the fireplace every night kind of poor. My dad and I both got really sick with bronchitis that just would not go away.  It turned out to be asthma.  Imagine finding out you had asthma at 40.  Well, after treatments and carrying around my inhaler forever I got better but my dad didn’t.  He continued to get sicker and lose weight like crazy. He lost 70lbs in 3 months.  He found out he had diabetes but he was so weak that he couldn’t go back to working construction for a long time.  My mom was a stay at home mom so we were literally starving.  It is a good thing we have a ton of family willing to help us.  Their story turned out fine. My mom and dad went back to school and got jobs as computer techs which they still have to this day.  That isn’t the point of this story.

What would have happened if we didn’t live within minutes of both sets of my grandparents, right beside my cousins, in the same city as most of my family?  What if no one could have helped us?  My dad lost his job, my mom hadn’t worked in 20 years, and they had three young children in school.  In today’s economy I know that none of the people that helped before could afford to help if it had happened now. I do not want something like that to happen to me.  I want something insuring my income. Income insurance helps protect you if you ever get too sick or injured to work.  It replaces your lost income.

Affordable premiums are totally worth it when it comes to thinking about how badly we would end up if my husband got sick.  I know that even though I have three degrees I could not make as much as my husband because he has more years in his field.  He has management under his belt and I don’t.  So we definitely couldn’t afford to live here without him.  Now that we have kids I think more and more about the future and I want ours to be secure no matter what life throws our way.

Have you ever heard of income insurance?
