School has started back! It’s time for stocking up on school supplies- paper, pens, markers, backpacks! I love love love back to school shopping as much as I love my kids starting a new school year- it’s so much fun to meet the teachers, see the freshly-decorated classrooms, and sign up to volunteer. The only thing I don’t like about starting school are the germs. Y’all know what I’m talking about. The kids head back to school and inevitably another child is sick, and then that gets passed on to the other kids in the classroom. I feel like we spend way too much time tending to colds and sniffles and sneezes once school starts back!

I couple of years ago I started stocking up on things to cut down on the germs when I started my back to school shopping. It’s become a part of the routine and ritual at this point. Grab extra hand sanitizer and soap for washing up, keep after the kids to practice good hygiene skills. But especially with little children, they aren’t always good at remembering. So I’m always on the lookout for ways to keep them interested and motivated- and this is where Softsoap comes in.

Softsoap has a line of fantastic foaming hand soaps with fun and engaging characters on them- really cool Star Wars characters: Darth Vader, Yoda, and R2D2. Plus they have Elsa, Anna, and Olaf on their Frozen-themed hand soaps as well! You can tell that we have used the most of Olaf. He is empty now. Having a fun way to practice good hygiene makes a really big difference- my kids are more likely to remember to wash their hands, and more likely to wash them longer when I use the Softsoap character soaps. And once it’s a habit at home, they can keep it up at school!

If you want to up your back-to-school hygiene routine, try incorporating fun hand soaps like the Softsoap foaming character soaps. But there’s more you can do to teach your children to avoid germs, and to avoid spreading them:
Teach your child the ‘vampire cough’ move- have them cough into the inside of their elbow instead of their hands- like a vampire pulling his cape over his face! It’s fun to learn and great at keeping germs off hands, where they can find their way to other children.
Practice the best way to wash hands- lather up with some soap, and rub your hands, nails, and wrists vigorously for at least 20 seconds- this is long enough to sing the first verse of ‘Row, Row, Row your Boat” twice. Rinse in clean water, and dry hands on a fresh towel. Turn off the tap with the towel, and voila!

Wash hands after going to the bathroom, before eating, after touching something dirty, after coughing or blowing their noses, after playing outside or at recess, and once they come home.
Make sure your child knows to use tissues and not their sleeves. I know this is GROSS in a huge way, but little kids -in my experience, boys especially- can use their shirts for more than just something to wear, and that’s NOT GOOD for hygiene! By using tissues AND washing hands, they’ll be much less likely to share their germs.

Hopefully with these tips, and with the fun new Softsoap Star Wars and Frozen hand soaps, you’ll have a great back-to-school season and stay happy and healthy! And washing hands and staying clean isnt just for the kids you know! Make sure you check out these Softsoap scents for everyone! Peony & Plum, Orchid Petals & Mint Water, and Wild Basil & Lime. I liked the Wild Basil & Lime the best but we havent opened the Orchid Petals one yet so it may jump over it. Who knows? All I know is that my house is smelling better and feeling fresher with Softsoap this Back to School season.
