Arnold contacted me to see if I’d like to try their new Healthfull line of whole-grain breads, and see what it would be like to swap my normal bread out for a week with their Healthfull breads- Flax & Sunflower. Nuts & Seeds, and Steel Cut Oats and Honey. I love bread- like really, REALLY LOVE bread, and the more whole-grainy the better! So of course I jumped at the chance!
I’m actively working on losing weight (down 20 pounds so far!) so I was delighted to see that all three of the varieties of Arnold Healthfull bread were just 80 calories a slice! I have had such a hard time finding a delicious, whole-grain bread that was under 100 calories! And I also just started a new part-time job at one of my local libraries, so suddenly packing a healthy lunch has jumped way up on the list of my priorities. I’m happy to say that the Arnold Healthfull bread fit both requirements perfectly- a lower calorie, whole grain bread that makes packing my lunch a cake-walk. Shaving off those extra calories really does count, and I can see how these breads will easily fit into my meal plans, giving me the benefit of whole grain but keeping the calories down to a comfortable number.
I’ve tried all three varieties at this point and they’re all delicious. I found that for me, the Flax & Sunflower is the best for nut-butter based sandwiches. I absolutely love peanut butter and jelly, or peanut butter and banana sandwiches. It really is the simple sandwiches that are the best in my opinion, but you can get as fancy with the nut butters and jelly/fruit varieties as your heart desires. I love cashew butter with a mango jam, but today I went for an organic, fresh-ground honey peanut butter topped with strawberry preserves in an open-faced sandwich. And I also wanted the same honey peanut butter with ripe bananas topped with toasted sunflower seeds. It really was the perfect lunch!
I really liked both the Nuts & Seeds and the Steel Cut Oats & Honey for my Tofurkey sandwiches. Tofurkey is like lunchmeat for vegetarians and it was SO GOOD on the Steel Cut Oats & Honey with a little fresh pesto and some crisp romaine. My husband is eagerly awaiting our tomatoes to ripen so he can try the Nuts & Seeds with freshly sliced heirloom tomato and slices of avocado and some salt and pepper. He likes to keep it simple, too.
