American Housewife Katy Mixon is all Moms + Backstage Visit with the Cast #AmericanHousewife #ABCTVEvent

I hope everyone watched the Tuesday night comedy block on ABC last week. All those hilarious shows right in a row! Be sure to see the bottom of this post for this week’s lineup! One of the shows we got to go backstage on when I was in LA last month was American Housewife. Katy Mixon is all moms and plays Katie Otto with distinction. She is that rebellious streak in all of us that says no to conformity. If you missed it last week you should go to ABC.com and see if you can still watch it online. Its that funny. She says that she is trying to help her younger daughter fit in more and her older two children fit in less.

Katie Otto, a confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three, raises her flawed family in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut, filled with “perfect” mommies and their “perfect” offspring. Katie’s perfectly imperfect world is upended when her neighbor’s decision to move notches her up from her ideal social standing and sets her on a path to ensure that doesn’t happen, regardless of the consequences.

Utterly hilarious but also hits home. I have been that mom. I am that mom. I can say with certainty that I am the ‘biggest’ mom on my street as well as being the least wealthy. I see them in their walking groups and no one ever invites me. But I wont get rid of my piercings or crazy schedule. I also know what its like to have a child with OCD and also other mental health issues.  Katy Mixon owns in her role as Katie Otto.

This weeks episode is titled “The Nap” and it is so easy to relate to. Every mom has had that day that wont end after staying up all night with the kids. And the husband that is ten time sicker than anyone else could possibly be. That was me last week actually. Everyone had the stomach bug including me but who was still getting stuff done? That’s right, me. Not to put dads down at all though because my husband works 60 hours a week plus commute times and is always tired.  And he gets up with the kids every single day.

“The Nap” – All Katie wants is a good, long nap after the kids keep her up all night. But when Greg gets the flu, she doesn’t get a minute to herself. Her exhaustion reaches critical mass with a confrontation with the school’s officious crossing guard (guest star Kate Flannery, “The Office”), on “American Housewife,” airing TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18 (8:30-9:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network

Here is me playing director backstage on location. It was kind of cool because it was a church and they were using just parts of it.

  1. I really like this new program. I have watched it both times it’s been on and I plan on watching it every time it comes on.
