Winter’s Heat Book Review

I received an ebook version of this title in order to facilitate my review. As always, all opinions are my own.

A WOMAN ON A MISSION

After putting her life on the line to protect classified intelligence, military psychologist Mia Kensington is on a cross-country road trip from hell with an intrusive save-the-day hero. Uninterested in his white knight act, she’d rather take her chances without the ruggedly handsome, cold-blooded operative who boasts an alpha complex and too many guns.

AND THE MAN SENT TO STOP HER

Colby Winters, an elite member of The Titan Group, has a single objective on his black ops mission: recover a document important to national security. It was supposed to be an easy in-and-out operation. But now, by any means necessary becomes a survival mantra when he faces off with a stunning woman he can’t leave behind.

MUST PARTNER TO SURVIVE

When Titan’s safe houses are compromised, Colby stashes Mia at his home, exposing his secret—he’s the adoptive father of an orphaned baby girl. Too soon, danger arrives and Mia lands in the hands of a sadistic cartel king with a taste for torture. As hours bleed into fear-drenched days, Colby races across the globe and through a firestorm of bullets to save the woman he can’t live without.

If they make it out alive, can he reconcile duty and desire?

Does Mia trust her heart to a man who willingly walks into kill-zones?

My first thought about Winter’s Heat is oh my goodness at the UST (unresolved sexual tension). Right from the beginning I was like, Get a Room! Or I would have been if the characters didn’t suck me into reading the book at midnight one night in a haze of insomnia. I was just going to open it up and read a few pages to help me calm my brain down. 169 Kindle pages later, the rise of 2 am, and I was done. Cristin Harber sets a fast pace with her book and her characters evolve quickly as the adventure escalates. I am a sucker for strong male characters that turn to mush when they are around their families. I think it is adorable how Colby Winters treats his little one Clara while still being as badass as possible. And yes I use that word. Winters is a man who is used to showing no fear but his resolve is definitely put to the test when Mia comes into his life. After he and Mia clash with a cartel intent of getting the same package they are both trying to get, their fates are thrown together.  Mia is also a strong character and is smart. I just adore smart female characters because that makes the interaction so much better.

On a side note, this entire book has a great cast of characters.  They do more than just support the main characters, they keep the action going. I love Colby’s mom. She is just so real and fresh. I literally laughed out loud at my favorite quote of the book (which I going to use later in my real life) where Colby’s friends show up and are as subtle as ‘whores hocking blowjobs’ about his relationship with Mia. I am laughing writing that down again right now and my husband is staring at me. This book has something in it for everyone. It has action, adventure, suspense, romance, and cuddly baby feels so check it out now.
