I am so excited to be asked to be a Peanuts Ambassador for the next year. It is truly an honor and I am so excited because I love Peanuts! The whole gang is just so fun to read about. I grew up reading the comic strips and now my kids love Peanuts as well! Even my teenager still loves Snoopy and his friends. He was probably more excited than me when I told him about being selected as an ambassador. I look forward to sharing cool interviews, news, products, and giveaways with you throughout the year! I was sent an awesome Valentine’s Day package just recently that my kids went nuts over.

Charles Schulz created dozens of Valentine’s Day-themed comic strips, and many of those centered around our favorite little boy – Charlie Brown NOT getting any Valentines. Of course, Snoopy gets a ton, and this always made Charlie Brown super depressed. And we all know about his unrequited love for the Little Red-Haired Girl. In real life, the Little Red-Haired Girl was a co-worker of Schulz’ named Donna Johnson Wold. Wold and Schulz eventually became romantically involved and dated for three years, but in 1950 when Schulz proposed to her, she turned him down, saying she was already engaged. Schulz was devastated, but he and Donna remained friends for the rest of his life.

Did You Know: Sally’s pet name for Linus, Sweet Babboo, was inspired by Schulz’ wife, Jeannie Schulz, who called her husband the same thing. Linus apparently feels differently about the pet name than Schulz did though because almost every time Sally uses the term of endearment, Linus screams, “I’m not your Sweet Babboo!”

Peanuts want you to make your own Valentines with treat boxes that you can color. These super cute boxes and crayons can be purchased at Oriental Trading as well as a variety of Peanuts toys, party supplies, and crafts for Valentine’s Day. My son loved coloring his box. He took the rest of the boxes to his school and they are using them as their “treat box” during their Valentines Day party to put all their candy and Valentines in. And he has read his new Peanuts Happy Valentine’s Day Charlie Brown book several times. Or really I have read it and he just tells me what he thinks it should say.

There are two primetime TV specials devoted to Valentine’s Day. The first one, Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown, is the 13th special based upon the popular comic strip. It originally aired on CBS on January 28, 1975 and now airs every year on ABC and the whole gang experiences heartache. Apparently after it aired, children from around the world sent Valentines to Charlie Brown out of sympathy.  Be sure to tune into ABC on February 12th (8:00-9:00 p.m. EST) to watch Be My Valentine Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Valentine special.  They are both great for the whole family to enjoy.

Poor Charlie Brown. Every year, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang can be found on hundreds of different Valentine’s Day gifts, including cards, plush, books, candy and much more including this A Charlie Brown Valentine DVD which was the second TV Valentines special. It is the 40th special.  It was initially broadcast on February 14, 2002 on ABC (where it continues to air now).

happy valentine's!
