Being from Alabama I do not really have much experience with snow. We barely get flurries once or twice a year. Two weeks ago we had a snowapocalypse because of a snowstorm with a couple inches of snow. That’s just to give you perspective. The day my house burned down we had over 12 inches of snow right after a couple of days of tornadoes. My house burned to the ground during the snowstorm of 1993 which is widely known as the ‘storm of the century’. The snow was so heavy on our roof that it fell through and caused the heating system to collapse which caught the upper part of the house on fire. Luckily the fire started in my bedroom and I was on the next street at my cousins. My family survived, my heavily pregnant cat survived, and the snow prevented the fire from spreading to the other houses. We lost everything. Red Cross helped us so much. It was amazing how much they helped considering how many other people were suffering after the tornadoes and snowstorm that claimed the lives of over 300 people.
One of the many things Red Cross helped my family with was to get furniture. In fact, the bedroom set that Red Cross gave my mom and dad is still in their bedroom because it was good heavy wood and lovely. I commend them all the time for their disaster relief and I personally give blood every time I can to do my part. I do not know what I would do in my parents situation. My children are my whole life and I couldn’t imagine if a dangerous situation like a fire happened to us. The picture above is my boys and I at my grandmothers. We go there every Sunday. These are the things I want to protect. This is my life, my family, my children and they deserve the best protection. I have taken many of the Red Cross classes including First Aid/CPR, Infant CPR, and I also took a swim class through them to prepare for my volunteer time at a camp for kids.
