Sleepace has come out with a pretty nifty take on personal home sleep monitors. Instead of cranking out another wearable device, they’ve opted to take a different tactic. Sleepace has developed a sleep monitor designed for your bed, which really is the best place to measure sleep habits. Their device, the RestOn, has a thin strap that fits under your sheet, with a component that magnetically clips to the device, activating it. In sync with your smart phone, the strap can monitor your vital signs, your movement, the quality of your sleep, and more. When you wake, the app on your phone will be able to not only track and display your sleep patterns, it will be able to make suggestions about how to improve your sleep quality and duration.
This is so different from the wearable devices that I was excited to give it a try. Using the RestOn is really easy- just place the thin sensor strap onto your bed under your sheet with the sensor head hanging down the side, clip the top of the device onto the sensor head, and it’s on and recording. So no problem there. If you’re having trouble visualizing how this works, they have a short, informative video at their website.
It was comfortable to sleep on, I never noticed the thin sensor strap that was recording my vital signs and motion in the bed. And I figured out that it would work with my phone to wake me within 30 minutes of a set alarm at the most optimal point in my sleep cycle, making it easier to get up in the mornings! And you can select some really nice sleep-aid music.
I was fascinated by the sleep tracking information. I’m not seriously not sleeping as well as I should. And the RestOn has been able to make specific recommendations about what I can do to help improve my sleep, though diet, exercise, and relaxation techniques. I’ve only been using the RestOn for a few days, but I can already see that this will be a useful tool for me in trying to pinpoint my sleep problems and work towards a better night’s sleep.
