Exclusive Q&A with Once Upon a Time Executive Producers! #OnceUponATime #ABCTVEvent

There are many reasons to anticipate the new season of Once Upon A Time. Besides the fact that the last season ended with a bang, I have been watching the previews for the new season all the time! I was recently able to sit down with and have a Q&A with the show’s Executive Producers, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. We got the watch the season premiere first and it is jaw dropping. It airs tonight at 7 pm CST! And on Sundays at 8/7c. So many things to consider. Is Regina good now? Will she be able to get over Robin’s death? What is going on with the ‘Savior’. How will the town deal with Hyde? So many questions!

I was very excited to get to talk about the premiere after we saw it. I wish I could have watched it again right after we saw it.

ONCE UPON A TIME – “The Savior” – As “Once Upon a Time” returns to ABC for its sixth season, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network, so does its classic villain-the Evil Queen. (ABC/Jack Rowand) COLIN O’DONOGHUE, HANK HARRIS, JOSH DALLAS, JENNIFER MORRISON, JARED S. GILMORE, LANA PARRILLA, GINNIFER GOODWIN

Something that is explored in the first episode is more about the Untold Stories. We asked what they could tell us about them.

Adam Horowitz: In the past we’ve seen the characters within the storybook who have been affected by the curse. Their stories intersect with our characters, in the case of characters whose happy endings have been ripped away by the Evil Queen and her curse. With the Land of Untold Stories, it’s a little bit different, and what we’re exploring is characters who have run away from their stories, who have left them and gone to this other place. Now they find themselves in Storybrook in stories that may have been put on pause and resumed. So rather than stories that necessarily that have ended in a certain way, these are stories that were kind of midstream that for whatever reason these characters didn’t want to see it continue.

We asked if these characters have control of their stories.

Edward Kitsis: It’s the same sort of control that I think any of the characters have had, which is, you know, that they have free will in their lives are-are moving forward, but there are forces on antagonism, like for our storybook characters it was the Evil Queen when she casts that curse.  For these characters, many of them met forces on antagonism that are like, I don’t want to deal with this, and then went somewhere else.

What was the selection process like for choosing the untold stories?  And how deep are you going?  And how much of that time will be focused on those untold stories?

Adam Horowitz: Well, we have a dart board!

Edward Kitsis: For instance, the second episode is The Count of Monte Cristo and The Count of Monte Cristo was a master of revenge.  You’re going to see the story unfold where The Count of Monte Cristo, we realize has a past with the Evil Queen, who we also know was interested in getting revenge.  When we bring in new characters it is the fun of telling that story.  Also though, how it filmatically links back to our characters.  I think what you’ll see in this first bunch, or actually the first 10 episodes is it really is just our characters. The villain is obviously the Evil Queen, Rumple is not looking very heroic right now, and Zelena is caught between two sisters.  We’re going to see some chaos in Storybook unfold, but really it’s a lot of it is going to be between our characters.

We also see Emma finding out more about being a ‘Savior’. She is coming to terms with it. We find out more about the other saviors.

Adam Horowitz: This season Once Upon A Time will explore a “savior mythology”. We have definitely seen the character of Emma grow into her role of Savior over the first few seasons. This season we are going to get into Emma’s head more and expect to see the rise of another savior.

Everyone’s favorite character to hate is Mr. Gold/Rumple. He handed the town over to Hyde in the last season in order to find a way to wake Belle. He has continually made people love him and hate him. Now he is on the hate side again for the sake of love. I cant drop any spoilers but I will say that Belle will continue to be strong and that Rumple will continue to be Rumple. He wont change and I like it like that.  Edward Kitsis,  “These deals and screwing people over is what he does best.  And so he can’t, you know, what he kind of came to last year was this is who I am, and if you want me to be a better man, I am, but I can’t be a different man, and I have to accept the fact that this is who I am.”  That is what I love about his character and the way they wrote him. I cant wait for everyone to see this episode so we can talk about it.

  1. This looks great! How cool that you were able to sit and talk with a producer! I love the costumes and how the themes are stories we know and love, but redone in a new way. I’ll check this out for sure!

  2. I really like this show and it is a well made show for TV. I have been watching it ever since it started. I think the Q and A session was great.
