Exclusive Brenton Thwaites Interview – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales #PiratesLifeEvent

I am sure that you have heard that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is out in theaters now. You should be there! You need to see this on the big screen because it is lovely and funny. I have been sharing my interviews with the cast this week and I wanted to talk about my interview with the very cute Brenton Thwaites who made us laugh so much when he told us that while he didnt steal anything from the set, his mum was in the corner and he had promised her a rowboat to build a garden in. He said if it got back to the producers for us to please tell them that. So retweet my tweet for me so we can get him a rowboat.

Of course one of the first things that we asked him was what was it like to work with Johnny Depp. And he didnt disappoint because he immediately said it was terrifying. That is not what we expected at all which is funny because I imagine in his place I would have been terrified as well. Then he explained himself, “It’s always terrifying because you never know what he’s gonna say or do and it always results in humiliation for me. This guy now is five movies worth of Jack Sparrow. And he’s on the ball and kind of irreverent and impulsive. It kind of improves your acting in the sense that you’re always open and free and relaxed to go with the flow, but also pretty terrifying.”

So expect some great bloopers when the bluray comes out. He said that every scene you could see his shoulders shaking because he is trying not to laugh.

Brenton Thwaites recently had his first child so we wanted to see how he felt working with Disney and how he thinks his daughter will react to his film. He mentioned working on Maleficent and how he loves Disney because they cater to young audiences. He laughed and said that its a bit too scary for his daughter right now though. He said maybe next year when she is two and we all laughed together.

I asked him about what it was like coming into the franchise at the 5th movie and did he feel that they valued his input since he is a newcomer and they have been doing this for so long.

Brenton Thwaites –You know, I think they did value my input as an actor. I think they really wanted to make it a fresh and exciting thing they hadn’t done before. So Javier coming on board, myself, Kaya, and the two new directors who supported and encouraged this one.

I appreciate that as a cast. I know I would be worried about it and that is why I asked. He seemed to really love talking about his cast mates and the directors.

He told us that he didnt really have a lot of training for this film besides three weeks of combat and sword fighting training to prepare for the role as well as getting training in British dialect and accents. We also joked with him asking about his skateboard and if he brought it with him. He said, “I wish I did. We were mainly in rocky fields and the studio. There was a guy there – a swords master – Thomas DuPont, who had an electric skateboard, and I tried it once, and you could kind of sense the whole studio thinking, get Brenton off that skateboard” I think he thought they would be afraid he would be working with a broken arm or something.

He had great chemistry on the set with everyone especially Kaya Scodelario. I think they are a great team who both have something to prove in this movie. He has to break the curse of his father and she has to find out who her father is and what her destiny is. Their lives collide and of course Jack Sparrow ends up right in the middle in typical Captain Jack style.

I wanted to share one last quote from Brenton from when we asked what he hoped audiences will take away from the film.

Brenton ThwaitesI just hope they’re entertained, you know? It’s the kind of movie that never loses its drive and has so many action pieces, set pieces, comedic elements, romance, supernatural, there’s kind of something for everyone in this movie. So, I hope everyone takes something from it and connects with the characters.
