Disappointment at the Big Latch On Event

I am very upset today. I planned  my entire day around the Big Latch On Event.  We even decided to skip a Cub Scout event. I figured those come around every month but this is once a year and maybe this time next year I wont be breastfeeding. So I am sure you can tell this post is heading in a negative direction so I will get to the point. I got the kids dressed, we left the house and I realized I forgot my folding chair. The event was going to be at a park so I needed somewhere to sit. I ran by a Walgreens and bought a chair for 15.99! That is almost $10 more than I paid for the ones I have that I bought on clearance at Christmas time.

I pull up at the park and there was no one there! So I pull around to the baseball field and I see some people but they were all either parents or girls playing softball. I was so upset! I sat there and waited for 30 minutes till finally I saw two cars pull up together with no teenage girls, only babies. I went up to the ladies (at this point my 9 year old and the baby were VERY upset) to see if they were there for the Big Latch On Event. They were and were just as surprised as me. Then one of the ladies pulled out her phone and said that she found a post that it was postponed till the Fall for better weather. What? You cant postpone a world-wide event that had already happened around the world. So I was very very mad. Not only did the coordinator for this event never email me back from two weeks ago, she just decided to cancel the event without telling anyone, on the day it was happening?

I know I am not in her shoes and I don’t know what happened but if she felt she couldn’t handle setting up the event or she couldn’t be there herself, in my email to her I told her I would help in any way I could. I offered to help in any way I could, to blog about the event, to help get the word out. I am sure I was not the only one to offer help. She could have passed the reins to someone else.

Strange thing that happened, I actually saw a bright orange Avalanche and knew that no one else in the world could have a car like that. I called my sister and yep, it was her. My 12 year old niece was trying out for the 14 U traveling softball team. So at least I got to see my oldest sister.

  1. That is a bummer!! Our even here in the east coast was FANTASTIC and our coordinator too had issues last minute…but because we were all pitching in we didn't have a hiccup! (I'm not a breast feeder but I usually attend so that I can show my support and pass out information while the mommies are busy "latching on")and yes– can you return that crazily priced chair!?
