This looks so heartbreakingly good. As a child I did not grow up religious but everyone I knew was. So I knew enough to know that I was not supposed to like girls. I knew that something was wrong with me. I honestly thought that I was born wrong, that I was supposed to have been born a boy because I liked girls. I was 12 before I realized that being bisexual was actually a thing. Movies like these where kids are in their formative years and being told that something is wrong with you, that you need to change, that you are broke in some way…This stuff happens. In real life. And it needs to stop.

Story: “Boy Erased” tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19.  Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith.  Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.
