Personally I liked the Washable Dry-Erase Mat the best. Baby E colored all over it. He carried it around with him all day the first day we opened it. We tried doing our art on our back porch but he wanted to do art everywhere. I caught him coloring the refrigerator later that night when Big E was supposed to be watching him while I took a bath. It was all ok though because even the crayons are washable! In my opinion there is no better teacher than allowing kids to create. Children love to create and anything that fuels their imagination is fine by me! Here is Baby E coloring:
He also really loved the markers and crayons because they had easy to hold shapes. I loved the cute little animals myself. He though it was so awesome that he could take the tops off and put them back on. The Washable Stamps were also cute little animals. Elijah had more fun stamping him self than the paper but again, they are washable and he was cackling with laughter like it was magic that a bunny would show up when he pressed down on stamp.
Children’s art is their first communication. Ask them about what it means, what each tiny dot and blob could mean to them. If its something different every time, that’s just more imagination and learning. I asked Baby E to draw me a picture and you can see it above. He is not even 2 and he drew that and gave it me. I think my heart melted. Its currently on our refrigerator proudly with Little M’s art.
Some tips for playing and learning with your children:
Emphasize the enjoyment of the process more than the end result. The actual work is not as important as the joy your child felt when creating it.
Describe the colors and shapes you see to help your child add new words to their vocabulary.
Ask your child to tell you about the drawing they create.
As your child grows into the toddler years, and their scribbles take shape creative confidence begins to bloom. One of the best responses to your child’s artwork is, “Let’s hang it on the refrigerator together.”
