A few months ago during the #CaptainAmericaEvent our group had the opportunity to screen the newest Disney Channel Original Movie Adventures in Babysitting. Even more cool, it is the 100th Disney Channel Original Movie and it premieres on June 24th at 8 PM/ET on Disney Channel!
We did get to do a cool interview with two of the stars, Sofia Carson and Sabrina Carpenter. They play the babysitters. While this movie takes themes from the 80’s movie of the same name, this is not a remake. This is a new movie that is hilarious.
We asked them how fun the movie was to film and they both laughed.
Sofia: Actually, it was a terrible time…
Sabrina: We really dislike each other. (while laughing)
Sofia: The five kids are some of the most talented kids you could work with. They were so professional, and they were such a joy to work with. I wish I could babysit them.
They continued to joke with each other for a few minutes. Apparently Sofia turned 22 on set and Sabrina had been 15. They all got along great with the younger kids as well. They had little parties every weekend according to the ladies with karaoke and games. Then we told they that they were really funny. We asked them to tell the funniest thing about each other.
Sofia: That she’s not that funny…
Sabrina: That’s what I was gonna say! I was, like, I’m not funny.
Sofia: No, but that’s what makes her funny is that she knows that she’s not funny.
Sabrina: And I’m not funny. I’m so lame…
Sofia: But with the script, she’s so funny…
Sabrina: Oh, thank you.
Sofia: No problem. Like, if she had writers for her all the time, she’d be so funny…
Sabrina: I’d be hysterical. Good thing I’m an actress. And Sofia is probably the funniest person you will ever meet. She doesn’t need a script.
Sabrina: Thanks. Love you.
Sofia: I love you.
Being a fan of the original movie I was excited when someone asked the girls had they seen it before they auditioned. I used to watch it every weekend so I am always glad when other people know what I am talking about.
Sabrina: Absolutely. Disney kind of came to both Sofia and I and we auditioned with each other. It worked. We’re very lucky that it worked out perfectly.
Sofia:I did see the movie. I was a big fan. My mom was a big fan of the movie. So to be able to create a new version of such a classic, beloved tale for this new generation, was something I was honored to do. And it was an incredible experience. Apparently, I have a thing with, like, sequels, and remakes.
Sabrina: Apparently me, too.
Then of course we had to ask the girls whether they were more like Lola or Jenny.
Sofia: I would say I’m kind of an in between. Lola is this really cool free spirited young girl who isn’t afraid to just live life, despite the consequences of sometimes making irresponsible decisions. But she’s really passionate about her art. And a very strong girl. And I’m also very passionate about… I think we both are, about what we do about our music and acting. And we’re both also… I’m just gonna answer this for both of us…independent girls. We have a really strong, incredible moms. And they taught us to be strong girls or represent girl power. And Lola and Jenny are both like that. ‘Cause Jenny, even though she’s a little bit more inside the box, she’s still a strong, powerful young girl. And we both save the day together.
Sabrina: What she said. It’s true, though! I think just because both of us… Like, like I was… I was saying earlier, you know, I take from Lola because she’s got that edgy sense of humor, and she’s very passionate about her art. Whereas Jenny can’t be creative to save her life. I think that’s kind of what I spend my life doing. But I will say that I am sort of a perfectionist like Jenny…Jenny’s also not funny, like me!
Sofia: I would say I’m kind of an in between. Lola is this really cool free spirited young girl who isn’t afraid to just live life, despite the consequences of sometimes making irresponsible decisions. But she’s really passionate about her art. You can really tell they get along in real life. They were smiling the whole interview and just joking with each other. They kept bringing up funny things that happened even when we asked about what the most difficult scene to shoot which happened to be a really tense moment between Jenny and Lola. They had to shoot it really quickly because Sabrina is not 18 and had to leave by a certain time each night. It was cold for them outside and they only got one shot of each close up. I wont reveal anymore than that of the scene though. I want you to see it yourself. But they did also tell us what their favorite scenes were. I will let those slide because you will see some of them in the trailer.
Sabrina: One of my favorite scenes, besides where we first meet, because I think that totally shows the dynamic of these two new babysitters and gets you ready for the adventure you’re about to go on… and the rap battle because that was really fun… I love the simple bathroom makeover scene for Jenny. Just because it’s a time where she’s not getting a full makeover where they’re glamming her up and making her look like someone she’s not… But just kind of letting her hair down in a way where she can be a little bit more adventurous like Lola. It just kind of shows you what she’s taken from this whole adventure that they’ve had together and how she’s a little bit more confident than she was before.Sofia: I also love the rap battle scene. We got to be rappers for the first time in our lives–and our last–and it was just a fun scene to shoot. It was so high energy. The music was awesome. The energy in the club was great. The kids were so cute and so hysterical. We had a great shoot. And that moment was kind of the beginning of their friendship because until then, they never really understood each other or saw anything in each other they could relate to. But in that moment they kind of were on equal ground for the first time and were like ‘this girl’s kinda cool…’ Despite their differences, they start this really beautiful friendship throughout the film that is my favorite part of the movie.
ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING airs TOMORROW June 24th at 8 PM/ET on Disney Channel!!
ABOUT THE MOVIE
In a heartfelt story that celebrates individuality, friendship and self-empowerment, the live-action adventure comedy made for kids, tweens and families, pays homage to the 1980s classic with familiar references and iconic scenes.
Hollywood Records recording artists Carpenter and Carson perform the movie’s end credit song “Wild Side” produced by Jens Koerkemeier, Emanuel Kiriakou and Andrew Goldstein.
“Adventures in Babysitting,” unfolds when Jenny Parker (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola Perez (Sofia Carson), two teen girls with distinctly different personalities, each interview for a coveted photography internship and accidentally swap phones. When the Anderson family calls Jenny’s phone looking for a last-minute babysitter, audacious Lola, in need of some extra cash, picks up and nominates herself. Meanwhile, dependable Jenny is already set to babysit the Cooper family for the evening. Unfortunately, Lola’s first attempt at babysitting takes an unforeseen turn when one of the Anderson kids sneaks out to go to a concert. Jenny, determined to protect her reputation, and Lola with the remaining kids in tow, head out and have the adventure of a lifetime during one magical night in the big city.
I like the original movie. I don’t know if I would even watch this one.
My girls loved the original movie back int he day. This sounds interesting but not sure if it is something I would watch.
