We had the chance to get the awesome author of Enlightened, Melissa Lummis, to answer some interview questions!
Your alarm clock goes off , what do you do next?
First and foremost, I get a cup of coffee. Nothing else happens until after that. Lol! Then I get my kids off to school. When the house is quiet, I practice yoga, work out, eat my power muffins and get a shower. Then, and only then, do I go to work. I have to make that routine sacred or I’m too likely to jump on the laptop and start socializing.
What do you write and what is it about that genre that calls out to you?
I’m writing paranormal romance right now and it has been a favorite of mine for years. Vampires in particular are my favorite. I can remember reading my first vampire romance novel, more like a gothic romance, when I was just 13. And it stuck with me. I searched the vampire novel out after that. Oh, I read other things, but I always come back to the vamps. Why do they call to me? I think it has something to do with the a vampire craving everything about you – wanting you so much, he literally eats you up. I know, I’m a little strange, but hey, what woman doesn’t want a man to want ALL of her?
What is it about your current hero that is crush worthy?
Wolf is the hero in Enlightened and he is all the things we want in a man—check that—vampire. He is broody and dark, of course. And he has to work at controlling his dark nature. His love is hard won and he has a bit of the bad-boy image, but when he’s yours, he is completely yours. Not that you don’t have to work at it with him, because where would the fun be if it was too easy? He’s also Cherokee and tall and dark and mysterious with shoulders broad enough and arms strong enough to keep the whole world out, when you need him to. He’s affectionate and passionate, and cooks for you, even though he doesn’t eat. And he makes the most awkwardly sweet gestures, like picking a thorny rose straight from the bush just for you in the heat of the moment.
Why would a reader want to be best friends with your latest heroine?
Loti is compassionate and loving. She’s got a sense of humor and is the one you want to sit up all night with drinking wine or tea talking about life and love and the new neighbor. She’s not a gossip, but she listens and shares, making you feel at ease and like you can actually be yourself and she’s not going to judge you. Her friendship and love is unconditional and she’ll be there in a heartbeat when you need her, unless of course she’s been kidnapped by an insane vampire or spirited away by faeries. That doesn’t mean she’s “perfect”. Far from it. She has a temper and she can misdirect her ire, but she doesn’t hesitate to admit when she’s wrong and will leave no stone unturned to make up for her bad behavior.
Tell us a little about your book.
Enlightened is about learning who you are and how to forgive yourself. It starts out with a mysterious magical accident in the basement of the Metaphysics lab and library of Clark College, then jumps to our Loti having another in a series of nightmares about her deceased husband. She’s depressed and haunted by the death of her husband and a mysterious unknown assailant who enters her dreams and her house to get to her. While she’s trying to figure out what’s going on she runs into our broody hero, Wolf the vampire. The strange attraction they feel for each other is electric, quite literally. And they find themselves inextricably drawn to each other against their will. The bond they develop and the ensuing race to figure out what’s happening to them and who is after Loti take them on a journey of self-discovery, love and revelations. There’s romance, adventure, mystery, witches, healers, yogis and vampires. What more could you ask for?
