I never have any time! I know most parents feel the same way I do but I also have that underlying edge of feeling like my time is wasting away. I feel like I was more alive and vibrant when I was a single mom working two jobs and going to college. I was always tired but I had something that entertained my mind. I hear the same thing from moms in my local groups. Everyone wants to feel like they are bettering themselves even if its in a tiny way which is why it was really cool when I was offered the chance to Stream The Great Courses Plus Online Learning Courses.
I used to love school and learning. I paid my way through my two associate’s degrees with my Scholar’s Bowl scholarships and never wanted it to end. Then I still had a small book scholarship when I went on to my bachelor’s because of always being the top Accelerated Reader in school. I would have been a career student if I could have afforded it. I always tell my husband that I want to go back and take more history classes. I always was a history nerd and my husband is as well. He loves military history. Now I couldn’t possibly attend a class because of my hectic schedule as a mom but with online learning courses you can learn at your own pace. The Great Courses Plus has over 8000 videos featuring brilliant, award-winning professors from the Ivy League and experts from National Geographic, the Smithsonian, and The Mayo Clinic and National Geographic just to name a few and they are available for streaming online. Actual video courses from a huge range of subjects. And they have over 70+ courses on just history! I was astounded at the amazing selection they had to offer. One of my favorite ones I have started taking so far has been, “History’s Great Military Blunders and the Lessons They Teach.” I immediately called my dad to tell him about it because he is one of the reasons I am a huge dork and I know he would appreciate something like this. Membership costs less than a lunch out with friends at just $14.99/month, and you can even try it free for a month first.
I have too much time on my hands! I know. I know. I just said I was so busy. I am but I am also bored. I spend half my day in the car waiting on my oldest son to finish with track, waiting on him to get out of football practice, sitting in the car for 30 minutes during my daughter’s speech therapy, sitting in the car waiting on my mother to get done with her appointments, and more. That is why having online learning courses at my fingertips is amazing to me. I can finally finish learning everything there is to know about chess and maybe beat my dad every once in awhile. And my oldest son and I could watch together at night to hone his skills. And I can learn better photography skills and better cooking skills. So many things to choose from. The Great Courses Plus is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Marketplace and Microsoft Apps as well as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and on the website through your phone, laptop, tablet, or desktop. So I can totally watch in the car while I am waiting and I bet that I could listen to the history courses on my many, many trips.
Go check The Great Courses Plus out now and get started on your journey today! And then come back and let me know you did so we can talk about the awesome courses together. There are new subjects, lectures, and professors added every month so you will never run out of things to learn about. And you can take more than one course at a time. There is no one keeping up with your pace, no homework, no tests, and no reason to feel guilty if you find a subject you don’t like. What a great way to keep expanding your brain! I love history too! I love ancient history and try to catch all of those kinds of shows on The History Channel. (I don’t much care for all their reality shows though.)
Great stuff, life long learner!
